Best Screen Protector for the iPhone 17 Pro: Tested and Reviewed
Best Screen Protector for the iPhone 17 Pro: Tested and Reviewed
By MediaDevil | 9 min read
The iPhone 17 Pro's display is Apple's finest yet — a Ceramic Shield front, Super Retina XDR display, ProMotion technology, and a price tag that makes a cracked screen genuinely painful to think about. Protecting it properly matters.
We've spent considerable time testing screen protectors on the iPhone 17 Pro, and the market divides pretty clearly into a handful of genuine options and a sea of generic products that look fine in listing photos and disappoint in real life.
Here's what we found.
What Makes the iPhone 17 Pro Display Different?
Before getting into protectors, it's worth understanding what you're protecting.
Apple's Ceramic Shield front glass (introduced with iPhone 12 and refined with each generation) is significantly harder than standard smartphone glass — about 4x better drop performance than older iPhones. This is relevant for screen protectors because it means the display itself is quite good at resisting scratches; your main threats are high drops, sharp impacts, and fine particulate abrasion (sand, grit).
The iPhone 17 Pro also features Face ID, not an in-display fingerprint sensor, which means fingerprint sensor compatibility is not a concern when choosing a protector. Any screen protector that doesn't obstruct the Face ID sensor array will work perfectly with Face ID.
The Pro's display is flat (unlike some curved Android displays), which makes protector adhesion more straightforward, avoiding the need for tpu hydrogel material, which is soft and difficult to apply.
The Main Types of Screen Protector for iPhone 17 Pro
Tempered Glass
The most popular category. Glass protectors for the iPhone 17 Pro sit flat against the display, feel similar to the bare screen, and are easy to apply. Quality varies enormously — cheap tempered glass from generic sellers is often poorly cut, prone to lifting at the edges, and inconsistent in clarity.
Best for: Users who want the closest-to-bare-glass feel and easy application.
Watch out for: Cheap products that don't fit precisely to the iPhone 17 Pro's dimensions, or use poor adhesive that lifts after a few weeks.
Ultra-Tough Film (9H Composite)
The newer category. Advanced polymer composites like our Ultra-Tough Magicscreen achieve the same 9H hardness as tempered glass while remaining completely shatter-proof. They're thinner than glass, conform perfectly to the screen, and won't crack even under significant impact.
Best for: Users who've had glass protectors shatter, want long-term protection, or dropped their phone regularly.
Watch out for: Cheap PET film (not the same thing at all — this is soft and scratch-prone). If a film protector doesn't specifically say 9H hardness, it's basic PET.
Matte / Anti-Glare
Available in both glass and film variants. Matte protectors use a frosted surface to diffuse reflected light, reducing glare significantly in outdoor conditions. The trade-off is a slight reduction in display sharpness — though quality matte protectors minimise this.
Best for: Frequent outdoor use, reading, photography, or anyone who finds screen glare distracting.
Privacy Screen Protectors
A glass or film protector with a built-in micro-louver filter that restricts the viewing angle. Anyone not looking directly at the screen sees a dark display. Useful for commuters, people who work in open-plan offices, or anyone who handles sensitive information on their phone.
Best for: Privacy-conscious users, public commuters, finance and legal professionals.
Leather Back Protectors
Technically not a "screen" protector, but worth mentioning — a genuine leather film for the back glass of the iPhone 17 Pro. The back glass is just as vulnerable as the front (and often more so, since phones are set face-up less often than back-down). Our leather back skins are made from full-grain leather in our UK facility and are completely residue-free on removal.
Our Honest Assessment: Which Protector Is Best for the iPhone 17 Pro?
There's no universal "best" — it depends on your use case. Here's how we'd direct different users:
If you want the longest-lasting, most robust protection: Ultra-Tough Magicscreen. It won't shatter or chip, it achieves 9H hardness, it's thinner than glass, and our customers regularly report using theirs for the full lifetime of the phone. It's what we'd put on our own phone.
If you want the best feel and don't mind replacing it if it cracks: Tempered Glass. Make sure it's from a reputable supplier with precision cutting for the iPhone 17 Pro specifically — generic "fits iPhone 17" products are often slightly wrong and lift at the edges.
If you're frequently outside in bright light: Matte Magicscreen. The glare reduction is significant and appreciated by anyone who spends time outdoors or near windows.
If you travel on public transport or work in open offices: Privacy Magicscreen. The viewing angle restriction is effective and the protector does its primary job simultaneously.
If you want complete protection: Pair any front screen protector with a leather back skin. The back of the iPhone 17 Pro is just as fragile as the front.
What to Avoid
"Fits all iPhones" or "fits iPhone 14/15/16/17" listings. The iPhone 17 Pro has specific dimensions. A protector not cut precisely for it will either not cover the full screen or overhang the edges, causing bubbles and lifting. Always buy a protector listed specifically for the iPhone 17 Pro.
Protectors over 0.5mm thick. Excessive thickness adds bulk and can affect touch sensitivity. Quality glass protectors are typically 0.3mm; quality film even thinner.
No customer reviews or very few reviews. The market is flooded with generic products. Reviews from real customers who've tested the protector on an iPhone 17 Pro specifically are your best signal.

How to Apply a Screen Protector Without Bubbles
Even the best protector can be ruined by poor application. Here's the process:
- Work in a clean, low-lint environment. A bathroom immediately after a hot shower (steam settles dust) is ideal.
- Clean the screen thoroughly. Use the included microfibre cloth and any alcohol cleaning wipe provided. Pay attention to corners and edges.
- Use dust removal stickers on any remaining particles before application — these are included in all MediaDevil kits.
- If using an alignment frame (included with our tempered glass range), position it on the phone before peeling the backing. The frame does the alignment work for you.
- Lay it down from one end. Don't press down in the centre — start at one end and work across to avoid trapping air.
- Small bubbles near edges are normal and usually disappear within 24–48 hours as the adhesive sets. Persistent bubbles over the main screen area indicate a dust particle — you'll need to re-apply.
